kay. So we've covered Aegwynn, the Guardian of Tirisfal and how her unborn child became infected with the remnants of the Avatar of Sargeras. So let's get into how those remnants corrupted a powerful mage and opened a Dark Portal, letting the orcs into Azeroth.
So Medivh is born to Aegwynn, the Guardian of Tirisfal, and Neilas Aran, a rogue Tirisguarde who had fallen in love with her. But the very soul of the baby has been corrupted by the remnants of the Fallen Avatar of Sargeras that had latched onto Aegwynn before she kicked his ass.

But none of them know this... of course.

So Aegwynn puts nearly all of her power into baby Medivh before leaving him to the care of his father. Cause the Council of Tirisfal is still after her.

So Medivh grows up as a ward of Stormwind, hanging with his squad, Prince Llane Wrynn (Varian's Daddy) and Anduin Lothar. One day, (Medivh is about fourteen at the time) they're running around Stranglethorn on a joyride when they get attacked by trolls. Medivh casts some spells and ends up passing out. He wakes in the middle of the night from some pretty fucked up nightmares and runs to his father's room. When Neilas reaches out to touch his son's brow, all the power Aegwynn channeled into the boy is awakened all at once. Like 100 clerics and Neilas try to contain the explosion of power.

In the end, Neilas is dead and Medivh is in a coma for nearly a decade.
When he wakes up, his mind and soul have been completely twisted and corrupted by Sargeras. But he's a good actor. He convinces the clerics that had cared for him during his coma that he's fine. But actually, he's more Sargeras now than Medivh.
So Medivh acts like he's protecting the realm, but he's actually trying to find a way to destroy all the races of Azeroth. So he starts investigating and exploring other worlds to discover a sure fire way of accomplishing his dark plan. And he does.

While exploring the world of Draenor, Medivh finds an orc warlock named Gul'dan. He bargains with Gul'dan, promising to share the location of the Tomb of Sargeras in exchange for bringing the orcs to Azeroth and destroying all the humans.
Gul'dan agrees. And with the help of his Shadow Council from the other side, he and Medivh open the Dark portal within the Black Morass.
And then the orcs are in Azeroth. And Medivh is all... oh noes! Orcs!
Then he goes about his business, without anyone knowing it was him that opened the Dark Portal and let in the dirty fucking horde.
So the council eventually sends Medivh an apprentice, a young mage named Khadgar. At the same time, the First War between the humans and the orcs is getting intense. Garona, the half orc, also shows up around this time. She and Medivh even had a brief affair. So... yeah. She banged Medivh. Not Lothar, as the movie would have you believe. And that bitch did not kill King Llane to save anyone. She was possessed by Sargeras and Medivh and fucking MURDERED him.
By now, Khadgar has figured out that Medivh is the one who opened the Dark Portal. So he (who by the way, you know how Khadgar looks old? He's not, he is like... 28. He was aged by Medivh during this battle) and Anduin Lothar show up at Kara to fuck him up.

Lothar eventually gets the upper hand and run his blade through Medivh's heart, but all this does is make him go full Sargeras final form. So Lothar slices off that bitch's head.
So Sargeras is back in the Nether. The innocent soul of Medivh is chilling out in the astral plane. See, turns out the good part that was Medivh struggled to overcome the Sargeras side constantly, which is why he retreated to Kara to battle his literal demons in safe solitude. When he died, the power released from him was so great that it corrupted Karazhan itself, which is why it's now so delightful to visit.
Eventually, Aegwynn figures out a way to resurrect her beloved son, but he pretty much goes full hermit.

But... a strange prophet shows up in Lordaeron with warning of a coming threat. He also speaks with Thrall, who has a vision of the threat, leading Thrall to pick up and move his people to Kalimdor to set up Orgimmar. Jaina Proudmoore also paid attention, moving the peoples of Kul Tiras to Theramore.
Medivh eventually appears to Thrall, Jaina, and Malfurion Stormrage in their dreams, revealing himself to be the prophet and also admitting to the opening of the Dark Portal. He warns them of a catastrophic event. So the three decide to team up at the World Tree.
Now the Battle of Mount Hyjal ensues, and the Alliance of fighters successfully keep Archimonde from molesting the World Tree.

Medivh vanishes, feeling as if he has redeemed himself for the crimes of his past by saving Azeroth for once, instead of fucking her over.

No one knows what happened to him, but it's likely we'll never hear from him again.

And that's the story of the Last Guardian of Tirisfal. Khadgar is awesome but old now. Lothar is a badass. Sargeras is still a dick. I think that pretty much sums up the Sargeras plotline right up into Legion. There's tidbits here and there, but that's the important shit.
