PANTHEON

S

o... we're going to go all the way back to the beginning.  Not the creation of the Azerothian universe, cause I guess they haven't gotten that primordial quite yet.

But there were the Titans.

Just for the record, I am very aware that I said I was going to post these lore snippets in no particular order. Well, get over it.  Cause we're going to raid Sargeras' Tomb so I find making this my next post deliciously appropriate. And I think the story is mythologically epic.  So bite me.

Alright.  So Titan are massive, planet-sized beings born from the soul of a world and the primordial cosmic... whatever the universe is made of.  It is believed that the first Titan to awake was Aman'thul, the Highfather.

This guy right here.  That's Aman'thul.  He looks kinda like Zeus.

No one said mythology is original.

Anyways, Aman'thul starts wandering the cosmos, believing that there must be other beings like himself somewhere in the universe.  And he finds em.  A bunch of them.  And they make themselves a club... an organization?  Ooh! They made a guild!

They made a Pantheon.  Its purpose was to shape and order worlds while they searched for more of their kind.

This Pantheon was made up of several Titans, each with abilities and pet projects.  They were a big deal.  For real.

So we've got Aman'thul, the highfather.  He made both keepers Ra and Odyn.  He also gave Nozdormu the power to control time when the Titans created the Dragon Aspects.  I'll get to them later.

There was Eonar, the Life Binder, protector of life, nature and health.  She created the keeper Freya, giving her some of her own power in order to create the Emerald Dream.  Eonar also gave the dragon Alexstrasza the power over life and Ysera the power to safeguard nature and the Emerald Dream.

Now there was Norgannon, Keeper of Celestial Magics and Lore.  My kinda guy.  Keeper of all magic, secrets, knowledge, and mysteries.  He made Mimron and Loken, and gave the Aspect Malygos the power over magic and the arcanum.

We have Golganneth, Lord of the Skies and Oceans.  He was the father of the sea giants, and he gave Thorim and Hodir their power.  For the record, I'll get to the Keepers... later.

There was Khaz'goroth, the Shaper and Forger of Worlds.  This guy made the Keeper Archaedas, and gave Neltharion the dragon the power over the Earth and the deep places.  Neltharion became Deathwing.  Good going Khaz.  I blame you for Cata.

Then there was Aggramar, who would eventually become the Champion of the Pantheon, charged with combating the Burning Legion.  So, yeah.  I guess they've always been a pain in the ass.

Alright.  Are you ready?  Cause this one is important.  Like behind everything bad thing in Azeroth important.

The final member of the Pantheon was Sargeras, the Defender.

He was the mightiest warrior and the Champion of the Pantheon.  He was the noblest of the Titans and fought against all evil.  When the demons began to claw their way into the physical universe from the Twisting Nether, Sargeras was ON THAT SHIT.

At first it was easy - the demons were weak as shit.  But they started getting stronger, and our boy began to suspect that greater beings from the Void were giving these more powerful demons strength.

The fight against the Burning Legion is getting intense, so Aggramar (remember him?) gets assigned as Sargeras' lieutenant.  He's tearing across the universe with our fav future supervillain, owning demons left and right.

About this time is when Sargeras discovers the existence of Void Lords. These montrosities made up of pure shadow dwell in the Void outside the borders of reality.  Turns out, these assholes are infecting planets with Old Gods, trying to infect the world souls of these planets, trying to corrupt and twist the souls to make epic being on evil... and the Titans would be screwed.

Sargeras freaks the fuck out and cleaves the planet in half in a rage, and in doing so, killing the slumbering Titan within.

He hauls ass back to the Pantheon to tell them what's happening, but they just admonish him for killing the world so, arguing that there may have been a way to cleanse it of the corruption of the Old Gods.

Sargeras figures that they'll never see things his way, so he leaves the Pantheion, vowing to cleanse the universe in his terms.

We'll take a break from this rogue future asshole and continue on the next page with some events leading up to Sargeras become the biggest dick in the universe.
